Matter of Childhood Obesity
Matter of Childhood Obesity Introduction The matter of childhood obesity and poor nutrition are some of the catastrophic issues that bedevil the American society today and who should take the responsibility in eradicating it has been the subject of debate since governments, parents, schools and the media carry substantial blame.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Matter of Childhood Obesity specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Statistics in America indicate that the cases of children suffering obesity have spiraled and for the last thirty years, the cases of obesity have increased by fifteen percent (Child Obesity, n.d.). Many reasons have been put forward to justify why obesity cases are on the rise: Doctors associate obesity cases with the fact that children are not consuming the exact type of foods required as a balanced diet and secondly, the American children are getting exposed to less physical exercises everyday. It is argued that eliminating t he cases of obesity in America will be hard unless parents are willing to accept the responsibility to inform their children about healthy lifestyles. There has been a strong debate about the party that should be held responsible for these rising cases of obesity. There are those who argue that it is the responsibility of the government to eliminate it while others argue that it is the responsibility of the parent and the family at large to eradicate it though it is conventional that a child is charged with the responsibility to manage his/her body. It has been turned into a blame game where the parents blame the government and on the other hand the government blames the parents. Main Analysis Educating children about good and healthy eating decisions can assist in reducing cases of obesity among them. This can be achieved through the institution and formulation of laws by the government. The rising cases of obesity is slowly getting out of hand, whereas many believe that the govern ment is to save the country from obesity; the available government policy is not well formulated to solve the problem hence the need for parents to encourage their children to adopt better and healthy eating habits. To encourage healthy lifestyle and good eating habits, the government should raise the health care charges for people who are obese. Although this policy can be argued to be bad, it will motivate those who are obese to adopt health lifestyles while rewarding those who practice good healthy habits. Consequently, despite the fact that such a policy will increase the costs of health care, it will end up promoting healthy eating and encourage body exercise habits but this also depends on the examples set by the parents in their homes (Murtagh, 2011).Advertising Looking for essay on health medicine? Parents also need to teach healthy routines in their homes and they should inform their children the benefits of body exercises and also well rounded diet, which can as well be passed from one generation to another. It is argued that children who live with parents who promote healthy lifestyle will likely promote healthy lifestyle and good eating habits when they grow up. Parents also argue that it is a mistake by the government since they are in position and they have the power to introduce some bans and also restrictions on the availability of fast foods and also to some extend prohibit some adverts that may be seen to be promoting unhealthy foods and eating lifestyles. Though these measures cannot completely curb the cases of obesity, they will grea tly reduce obesity cases. Although the government and those who advocate for the curbing of childhood obesity agree that the government should be responsible in eradicating it, they disagree with the governmentââ¬â¢s argument that parents should teach their children good eating habits and instead, to them, it is the teacher who should be the one to teach the children about the dangers of childhood obesity. Parents also argue that the government should instead operate some classes that offer lessons on obesity to the children. It is argued by the proponents that the parents will not mind paying for the classes since it is in their interest to eliminate childhood obesity (Public Health, 2011). Conclusion Since the elimination of childhood obesity cases rests with two main measures: first, the promotion of physical exercises and two, the promotion of good and health eating habits, the debate on who should take the task of eradicating it should not be a matter of concern since it wil l not in any way solve the problem at hand. It only requires good will and taking of action collectively by all the stakeholders. Government has taken the responsibility to prevent obesity. This has been prompted by the fact that the prevalence of obesity increases the chances of people contracting other lifestyle diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes and also cancer.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Matter of Childhood Obesity specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More There is a need for a collective action if childhood obesity is to be defeated; parents need to teach their children better eating styles and above that they should actually act as their childrenââ¬â¢s role models on matters of better eating habits. The government should also enact necessary laws to govern the sale of fast foods to children. References Child Obesity. (n.d.). Child obesity in America: taking care of our children. English Literature - Essay Example Moreover, most of these items are military artifacts, and during this time in history, Mercia was expanding through battle into the neighboring kingdoms. The Hoard Staffordshire Hoard is an assembly of artifacts that are mostly gold and silver metalwork. Most of these items have been identified with military. There are, therefore, no domestic-related objects such as eating utensils, vessels, and feminine jewelry. There are specialized words that are important in understanding the artifacts. One of these words is archaeology. This is a term that is used to refer to the scientific study of humanity. It is primarily concerned with environmental data, material culture, and analysis (Keynes 350). Archaeologist is another important word in this aspect. It refers to a person who studies peopleââ¬â¢s behavior in the past and the things left behind. Anthropology as a specialized word in understanding artifacts refers to the study of peopleââ¬â¢s past and present in the attempt to understand the complexity of cultures across the human history. A fourth specialized word is hoard, which, in archaeology, refers to a gathering of artifacts o r valuable objects, sometimes buried in the ground. The exhibitions in this hoard are arranged in a way that more than forty star items, including the Biblical inscription, pectoral cross, and the seahorse are set to display. In my opinion, this arrangement is made to give the visitor a summary of the items in the hoard in a single look. To me as a visitor, I found this arrangement interesting to look, since I was able to see all the artifacts within the hoard. There are different items that were used in the past, with different social functions. For instance, the Biblical inscription evidences that, religion was a cultural factor in the past. Moreover, the presence of war tools shows that the society fought as a way of defending itself. A Gold Pommel is one of the objects found in the Anglo-Saxon hoard. The pommel was either of

One of leading causes of death Alzheimer's disease in men Essay
One of leading causes of death Alzheimer's disease in men - Essay Example This type of disease can also be described as memory loss or forgetfulness and it is very common among the elderly people. This condition is responsible for causing more deaths among the males in the US. Schaie & Willis (2002) suggest that dementia of the mind can be attributed to old age and this is seen as a normal development in the life of the human beings. According to Thomas (1996), research has shown that the majority of adults who have what he calls Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) are not aware of their condition and the number of people affected is greater than imagined. Park (2010) posits to the effect that ââ¬Å"More than 5 million Americans currently suffer from Alzheimer's disease, a number that will grow to 13.4 million by 2050. There is no cure.â⬠The other problem related to this disease is that there is no definite test for Alzheimer and the therapies that exist include drugs and lifestyle behaviors which include keeping the mind busy through games and puzzles as well as trying to enrich social relationships with other people. However, these techniques can only can ââ¬Å"only delay, not stop, the onset of memory loss, confusion and cognitive decline that generally extend over a period of several years,â⬠Park (2010). ... According to CDC (2011) the only remedies available include therapies that are offered by voluntary organizations in the US. These specifically provide home based care to the people affected by this disease and at times they provide training programs such as exercise as well as performing other activities like reading and watching television since they help to keep their mind active. The people who offer voluntary work to the affected people also teach them different lifestyle activities that can help them to live health lives. These include aspects such as good diet which can significantly improve their health. The people affected by this disease can also get medication as prescribed by their physicians. The government and other healthcare agencies have spent a lot of money through assisting people affected by this disease. ââ¬Å"The cost of health care for people with Alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease and other dementia was estimated to be 200 billion dollars in 2012, including 140 billi on dollars in costs to Medicare and Medicaid and is expected to reach 1.1 trillion dollars in 2050,â⬠(Tejada-Vera, 2013, p. 1). More resources are being spent in dealing with this problem hence the need for holistic measures that can address the problem once and for all. These groups spend quite a lot of money procuring drugs that can be used by the patients. Part of the money is also used for educational programs that are meant to create awareness among the Americans about the dangers of this disease. It has been realized that a lot of people often ignore the existence of this epidemic which is responsible for causing a lot of premature deaths in the US. The other important aspect about

Personality Type Report Your Personality Preferences EXTROVERT You are social and outgoing. You are most comfortable when with other people and experiencing the world first hand. Interaction with others and first hand experiences energize you. It is not unlike you to start conversations with strangers. You have a preference for the outer world: people, activities, and things. Other people provide you with a mirror, sounding board to help you develop ideas and plans. Being alone may sap your energies. Your concept of the world is derived from experiencing it firsthand and then drawing conclusions. SENSORY / INTUITIVE You appear to be an equal mix of both sensory and intuitive types. This may cause you some conflict at times. On the other hand the balance of the two may work just fine for you. There is certainly nothing wrong with having a fair share of both types if you are happy. Below you will find descriptions of both types.à SENSORYà You usually gather information with your senses: what you can see, hear, taste, touch and smell in the physical world. The facts gathered from the sensory data you process are the building blocks of your model of our world. You concentrate your energies on what actually exists and do not ponder what might exist too much. You are usually practical and rely on your common sense to guide you through the world. You see things as they are and have little or no need to search for underlying meanings.à INTUITIVEà While you do process information through your senses you add a twist to your processing by relying on intuition and serendipity. You look for undercurrents of meaning and abstractions in what you experience physically. You do not just see things just as they are, but as what they could be. While you may rely on common sense at times, you trust inspiration far more. PERCEIVING You like to have as much information as possible before making a decision. Putting off a final decision until the last moment does not make you uncomfortable. Indeed once a decision is made, a course plotted, you may feel a bit uneasy, because you feel bound to a certain course of action. You would much prefer to wait and see what happens. You enjoy the opportunity to improvise. Commitments are not etched in stone to you, and are changeable. FEELINGà You make decisions subjectively based upon your values and what is important to you. How people will be affected by your decisions is important to you. You are likely to make decisions based upon what you feel is acceptable and agreeable rather than what is logical. Your truths are founded in your values and those of the society you live in. It is important to remember that we are discussing how you evaluate data and make decisions, and that you rely on your feelings to do so in no way implies you are overly emotional. Your Personality Type Your personality preferences suggest you may be one of two personality types, so both these types are listed below. Extrovert/Sensing/Feeling/Perceiving Your caring and generous nature makes helping others a pleasure for you. You are so full of energy, friendly and charming that some might describe you as the life of the party. You are not overly judgmental and accept others as they are. You steer your course through life by relying on your common sense. You are an optimist. New experiences are food for your soul.à In relationships you are the one that can bring light to the gloomiest situation. You are easygoing and very accepting of others. You are full of energy and need to share adventures with your friends and loved ones. You need attention and approval. You may not need a deep emotional bond, but you do need your relationships to be fun. How My Academic Background Will Help Me
The centerpiece of my college education was that it offered me a chance to read extensively, develop writing skills and learn to think logically, coherently and analytically. I developed and nurtured these skills inadvertently by participating in class discussions, group work and research papers. These tools have subsequently been useful in my personal and work experiences. The breadth and depth of my college curriculum offered me the chance to take classes that cut across a broad spectrum of academic disciplines. The relevance of such a broad educational preparation to management is that it helps widen the horizon of analytical, service and product possibilities. Nevertheless, I was cognizant of the need for me to acquire work experience to help ground my education in a practical framework prior to enrolling in graduate school. My choice of management as the area of career interest was not fortuitous. My relentless participation in extracurricular activities in college and the insights I gained helping my mother in her small business helped galvanize my interest in management training and MBA education. Hence my interest in a finance and brokerage operations work after college. By virtue of my three-year work experience, I have been exposed to several management challenges and opportunities. Perhaps most importantly, the challenges have reinforced my interest to seek modern management solutions. I am intrigued by the manner in which the various facets of management affect each other including finance, operations, human resources, marketing, strategy and information technology. My career plan has been to seek different experiences by virtue of six-month stints in different departments. In this connection, I have had assignments in corporate finance, brokerage and human resources, culminating in my current position in back-office operations and settlement. In the above roles, certain characteristics have been apparent to me as critical success factors. I have learned that the attributes of teamwork, initiative, sense of urgency and leadership are at the core of success in management activities. In graduate business school, I would seek to explore the intricacies of modern business management efforts, challenges and opportunities. Moreover, I intend to learn about the relationships of the various disciplines within management and how their interplay may be optimized to benefit a particular entity.

Adult moral reasoning
For an intellectual Fowlerââ¬â¢s framework could be the next ââ¬Å"big thingâ⬠in terms of serious theoretical positions on the formation of morality and moral reasoning and the substance of faith. In a human perspective, Fowler successfully attempted to provide a picture that illustrates and guides both the individual being studied and the observer/scientist via the stages (Berger, 1994).Though these stages are not as explicitly applicable to all persons, like other psychologists such as Erikson and Maslow, Fowlerââ¬â¢s important contribution apparently is more than expansion of Kohlberg or Piaget. His own personal journey, lengthy and in-depth research has given him a solid premise to work on (Berger, 1994).My personal journey may probably be described closely in the perspective which is described by Fowler. I donââ¬â¢t have much experience and enough intellectual prowess and scholarship to be in the position to do a thorough critique on the theory and theorist.Howev er, since it is a personal response paper, there is one segment that I can truly say that speaks a lot about who I am and my own journey. For instance, faith and morality are intricately intertwined just as faith, ethics and values are almost synonymous (Berger, 1994).Fowler may be correct to a certain extent in attributing specific concepts which indeed are descriptive of universal experiences (Berger, 1994), and I cannot argue with this theorist on this issue. It is altogether important to me that individuals must come to grips to the effects of personal faith on conduct and decision making process, and such issues as personal priorities. It is when a person decides to commit to what may be attributed as a mystical Being (i.e., in the conception of God) that spells a difference to that personââ¬â¢s worldview or way of life. I would still like to argue with Fowler that he has reduced so much to an intellectual explanation something which cannot be explained since there is a diffe rence (in my perspective and understanding) between mere knowledge of God and real spirituality.I personally donââ¬â¢t like it when intellectuals and philosophers settle to ââ¬Å"study Godâ⬠or morality and departing from real substantive and life changing faith.Reference:Berger, K. On This Rock, I Will Build My Church - 2272 Words
Title: On this rock, I will build my church Verse: Matthew 16:13-20 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do people say the Son of Man is? 14 They replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. 15 But what about you? he asked. Who do you say I am? 16 Simon Peter answered, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 Jesus replied, Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whateverâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦A lot of people think it is a full name, with Christ as a last name. However, this is not true. Jesus Christ is the shortest way of confessing our faith, saying that Jesus is our Christ. Two thousand years ago, there was a great distance between the words Jesus and Christ. It was difficult for the disciples of Jesus to confess that he is their Christ. For two thousand years, the Jews waited for their messiah. However, the Jews did not accept Jesus. The Jews thought that the Christ would have to come from a cloud in heaven. They thought that he would come in majesty and dignity, which is why they could not accept someone so weak. How did Jesus come onto earth? Jesus was born in a manger in the pen of a horse. So to accept this sort of Jesus who was born in such a low manner required great faith. In those days when nobody accepted Jesus as Christ, Peter confesses that Jesus is Christ. This is why this scene is so great and amazing, where Jesus is finally being confessed to as Christ. Also, this is a scene where after Peter confessed that Jesus was Christ, he received great blessings. This scene should not just be one that occurred two thousand years ago. This is a scen e that should be relived by us. Matthew 16:13 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do people say the Son of Man is? Jesus asks here who other people say he is. Jesus asks how he is looked upon with the eyes of others. This
